How to play Asoduel

Asoduel is a word association game. You get sixteen words, and they hide four groups of four. Each group shares a link, and your job is to find all four before the clock or your friend does.

Find a group

  1. Tap 4 words that share a link, then Submit.

  2. Find 3 groups and the fourth is found for you. Pick its link from four for 25 more.

  3. A wrong guess costs 25. You have 3 minutes.

Tap four words you think belong together, then tap Submit. If they share a link, the group is yours. Its words leave the board and its link is shown, so you can see what you found.

If they do not share a link, it costs you. In a solo game or a sent board, every wrong guess takes 25 points off your score. In a live duel there are no points to lose, but you are locked out for two seconds, which is a long time when someone else is looking at the same board.

The fourth group

Once three groups are found, the last four words are obviously a group. So the fourth group is found for you, and it scores nothing by itself. What you still have to do is name its link. You get four options. One is right, three are decoys that fit some of the words. A right pick is worth 25 points. You get one pick.

Easy groups and hard groups

Every puzzle has one group at each of four levels, from the plain one to the one that makes you groan when you see it. The level is shown with dots, never a color. Harder groups are worth more:

  • One dot: 100 points
  • Two dots: 150 points
  • Three dots: 200 points
  • Four dots: 300 points

The words are there to fool you

Most boards have a few words that seem to fit two groups. Five words might all look like trees, but only four of them are in the tree group, and the fifth belongs somewhere you have not looked yet. Before you submit, ask whether a word could also mean something else.

A good habit is to start with the group you are surest of, even if it is the easy one. Fewer words on the board make the hard groups easier to see.

Three ways to play

  1. Same 16 words on both screens. Find a group of 4 first and it's yours.

  2. Pick the link of each group you find for 25 more.

  3. Three groups give away the fourth: you both get 8 seconds to pick its link.

  4. A wrong guess locks you out for 2 seconds. 3 minutes in all.

Duel a friend live. You both get the same board at the same time. The first to find a group claims it, and it disappears from both boards. Whoever has more points when the board is done wins.

Play a board and send it. You play alone, then send the link. Your friend plays the same board whenever they like, and you see your results side by side. Your score is the groups you found, minus 25 for each mistake, plus 25 for naming the last link, plus a point for every second left on the three-minute clock when you found your third group.

The daily puzzle. One board a day, the same for everyone, new at midnight UTC. You get one go at it, and then you see where you rank against everyone else who played that day.

Ranked games

Ranked puts you live on one board with another player who is looking for a game. Win and your rating goes up. Ratings sort players into leagues, from Letters at the bottom to Oracles at the top, and the best of each season are on the leaderboard.
